MDA Hosts two significant Meetings

7th Scientific Meeting & InformationMD! 2008

Melbourne played host to two major meetings on the 13th and 14th November 2008 at the Lanham Melbourne located on the banks of the Yarra at Southbank.

The 7th AOMC Scientific Meeting attracted scientists and clinicians from the Asia Pacific region with an excellent program delivered by leading speakers.

InformationMD! 2008 is the MDA’s annual information conference designed specifically to deliver information on a wide range of subject to a lay audience and those agencies and disciplines supporting them. Over 300 people attended the two meetings.

The Opening Ceremony brought the two meetings together with MDA Executive Director Boris M Struk performing the duty of MC. The “world’s most popular” Lord Mayor John So, was invited to welcome audience members. Lord Mayor So welcomed the large overseas contingent and wished all delegates well for a positive meeting and outcomes which would make a difference.

Ron Murray a Wamba Wamba Tribesman then offered a traditional indigenous welcome followed by a moving Didgeridoo performance. The sounds created were amazing and were appreciated by all in attendance.

In a break from what has become a tradition in AOMC “opening ceremonies”, local culture was recognised by a surprise performance of AC-DC‘s It’s a Long Way to the Top at full volume with Industrial Tap providing the dynamic dance routine. Surprised smiles lit the ballroom.

A/Prof. Andrew J Kornberg, Chairman of the AOMC Scientific Organising Committe then welcomed all participants to the meeting.

Presentations in both meetings were of the highest quality and added significantly to the pool of knowledge. MDA’s investment in the Meetings was noted, appreciated and in the long term prove to be productive.

Several new research initiatived were discussed and MDA will play a pivotal role in bringing several new programs to national fruition.

The Official Dinner provided the opportunity for AOMC delegates and members of the MD Community to “mix n mingle” and learn more about the people undertaking various research initiatives.
