Big Boys Toys Car Show for MDA

Sunday, 8 March 2015, saw revheads and car-enthusiasts flock from all around Victoria to Essendon Fields to take part in the inaugural Big Boys Toys Car Show with proceeds going towards Muscular Dystrophy programs, services and research.

The event was a huge success raising over $48,000, with more than 1,000 people in attendance and in excess of 200 cars on show.

The day saw crowds of all ages lapping up the sun and taking in the amazing array of vintage, modern and custom cars on display. The grounds were abuzz with motoring aficionados talking shop and swapping stories.

The conscious synergy between hosting a male-oriented car show event to raise much needed funds for a condition which mainly affects the male population was evident with young boys and men alike just as excited to share the experience.

A special presentation by Hall’s Taekwondo studio captured the audience’s attention, as did special appearances by the Essendon Football Club’s mascot Skeeta and many costumed characters, from Storm Troopers to Snow White.

There was a great turn out from the MD community with many being true petrol-heads, loving nothing more than hearing the roar of a muscle car to get their hearts pumping and blood flowing.

The positive response from the general public and car clubs was phenomenal, meaning the event provided the dual purpose of not only providing a wonderful platform for a car show and raising money, but it also raised awareness about the condition to many people who had previously never been exposed to the MD sector.

Given the remarkable success of the event, MDA is looking forward to planning the second annual Big Boys Toys Car Show!
