Happy New Year to all and can you believe we are already 1/12th of the way through 2018!

We are gearing up for yet another busy year, with ISO 2015 Certification and our raft of programs, services, research funding and our usual major fundraising events, with Run for Strength on Sunday 18 February being the first for 2018.

The genesis of Run For Strength (RFS) was back in 2009 an idea of one of our Dads, Ozi Akyldiz and his mate Sam Quattrone. This is going to be another fun event and I hope our families and friends of MDA will join us. This year, Kristy Mayr journalist at Network Seven will once again join us as our event’s MC. We will have the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) “firies” joining us too and they are even bringing one their bright red and shiny fire-trucks along!

National Superhero Week this year will run from the 3rd to 9th September and with this advance notice, I am encouraging the MD Community to help spread the word in the school and work-place and organise a record number of participants and fundraising.

ChallengeMD Goldfields 2018 will be held from 28th September to 1st October  We will be promoting ChallengeMD Goldfields shortly and if you want to Make a Difference, I encourage you to register and participate. If your New Year’s resolution was anything like mine ”to get fit”, you will have 8 months of training to get in shape for the event, which after all is pedaling only 420km over four days.

Two Trivia Nights have been scheduled – Christmas in July and the other during the Spring Racing Carnival, this provides you with heaps of time to form a team and come for fun and fundraising. In all cases with our events, we want to raise awareness and funds and we’ll be counting on your to help to promote our events. Keep an eye on our website for updates and also on Facebook.

On a more serious note, my family has been navigating the NDIS maze over the past 6 months. It is a steep learning curve and we have learned much. Some of this knowledge I was able to share last week when I met with one of our families for a couple of hours to help them navigate the nebulous paths…  So if you need any help, please give us a call. Our Client Service Team is looking forward to hearing from you and assisting you in gaining the maximum support possible to meet your needs living with MD.

That’s it for now and do keep an eye out for our new video casts which will be posted on a regular basis at The Home of MDA and on Facebook.

And now, in the Superhero theme, it’s onward and upward in the continual fight of Making a Difference!
