Muscular Dystrophy Australia recently voiced to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, feedback we have received from you requesting that carers and disability support workers get urgent priority to personal protective equipment.

And, we are pleased to let you know that your concerns were taken seriously and that the Royal Commission has assured us that they are calling on all Australian governments to ensure that responses to the Coronavirus include dedicated strategies and take all necessary measures to protect and support people with disability, including access to personal protective equipment as a key area of concern.

You can access the Royal Commission’s Statement of Concern – The response to the COVID-19 pandemic for people with disability here: https://disability.royalcommission.gov.au/publications/statement-concern-response-covid-19-pandemic-people-disability

If you are living with MD and have been affected by:

  • Not having access to essential services, including assistance with toileting, showering medical and personal care
  • Inadequate measures being in place to reduce the risk of infection by ensuring that support workers are properly trained and have access to the correct equipment
  • Being forced to accept help from support workers, family members or friends who are themselves unwell

We would like to hear from you and add your testimony to our submission to the Royal Commission.

Together we can ensure your voice is heard.
