CampMDA # 56
5th – 8th April, 2004
River Village Motel & Holiday Units, Echuca
Monday 5th April – After leaving Moonee Ponds on time, we headed off towards Echuca. After a stop for lunch at Wallan, an RACV call out was necessary due to a flat battery on the bus. Getting back on the road, our next stop was a couple of hours later at Oz Maze in Echuca. Camper – carer pairs headed off around the map of Australia maze to find the answers to the questions on their card. Dom managed to find all the answers & make it out of the maze first, with Kye coming a close 2nd. After settling everyone into their units, we enjoyed lasagne & salad for dinner & Dom picked Tommy Boy as the movie for the evening’s activity.
Tuesday 6th April – An early morning wake up call at 6am by thunder, lightning and pouring rain promised a damp & dreary day, but by 9am the sun was shining and after breakfast we headed into town to the Wax Museum to see the Royal Family, Bob Hawke, Crocodile Dundee & the Hunchback of Notre Dame along with many others. After lunch we went to the Holden museum & then back to River Village for some free time before dinner. Back into town after dinner we enjoyed a couple of games at the bowling alley.
Wednesday 7th April – Another bright & sunny morning had us heading into Kyabram about 30 minutes from Echuca to the Kyabram Fauna Park. After witnessing a greedy Ibis stealing food from a Wallaby, we wandered around the park looking at the various birds, reptiles, dingoes, Tasmanian devils, kangaroos and emus. After a late lunch we headed back to River Village for a relaxing afternoon where some of the guys played a game of hockey on the tennis court. After dinner, we decided to watch Mr Deed’s and get an early night before the drive back to Melbourne on Thursday.
Thursday 8th April – Late breakfast on Thursday meant that everyone got a sleep in before packing up the bus ready to go back to Melbourne. After brunch we had our camper/carer photos, got everyone into the bus and van and were back at Moonee Ponds on time. All in all it was a great camp enjoyed by all who came.
Jules bowling 3 strikes in a row in the last 3 frames at bowling on Tuesday night.
Fantastic weather in the high 20’s for all 4 days of camp.
